A. JOSEPH BARNARD, son of James, was born 25 Mar 1854 in Langport, Somerset, and died 16 Dec 1911 in Waimate. He married BEATRICE MAY DONAVAN (NEE ASTON) 1907 in Waimate where he was a labourer. He was born 26 Jul 1905, Waimate; d. 09 Feb 1983 at Christchurch; and married OLGA IRENE GOUGH on 11 Apr 1939; she was born 01 Feb 1917 and died 30 Oct 1987. iii. CECIL CLAUDE AUSTIN BARNARD,was born 05 Sep 1908, Waimate and died 1965, Christchurch; He married (1) VIOLET MAY (NAN) WELSH, 17 Dec 1929; (she was born 17 Dec 1908, Christchurch, the daughter of William and Emily Ann Welsh. Violet died 24 Sep 1990 at Christchurch) Their two daughters were Norma Carol Aston and Judith Ann Barnard. They divorced 1952. His 2nd marriage was to NANCY ZELPHA RANDLE in 1953; (born 1913; died 1965at Christchurch) Cecil was a grocery manager

B. FREDERICK JAMES BARNARD son of James, was born 04 Aug 1856 in Barton St. David, Somerset, and sailed from Plymouth to Napier with his brother Joseph on board the immigrant ship Mataura 12 Aug 1877 arriving at Napier 9 Nov 1877 and travelled to Christchurch. He married GRACE MURRAY DOUGLAS 16 Apr 1894. She was born 15 May 1869, and died 04 Aug 1947 in Christchurch. Frederick James worked as a labourer and gardener at Papanui died 27 Jun 1923 in Horner Street, Papanui, Christchurch aged 66 years. His burial on 29 Jun 1923, Christchurch. 3. HENRY JOHN (JEHU) BARNARD was born 13 Mar 1878 in Huish Episcopi, Somerset and died 17 Apr 1921 in Wellington aged 43 years. His burial was on 17 May 1921, Karori Cemetery, Wellington (location A7/ BC/R 13/ Pl 05) Henry married EMILY LOUISA KNIGHT 28 Apr 1909 in St James Anglican, Lower Hutt, Wellington. She was born Abt. 1879 in London, England. In 1908 he was living at Eketahuna employed as a butchers and in 1914 is living at Nijau Avenue, Hutt, butcher with wife Emily. He receives his military call-up 1918 and is a fruiterer.
Karori Cemtery Inscription - In loving memory Henry John Barnard d 15 May 1921 aged 43 years and his wife Emily Louise d 17 Jan 1955 aged 75 years. Emily, now a widow, lived at Lower Hutt until 1943 when she moved to North Shore, Auckland. Emily died 17 Jan 1955 aged 75 years and was cremated at Waitakere Cemetery.

Daughter Beatrice Harriet Joy* Barnard was born: 01 Oct 1914 and died 29 Sep 2004 in Auckland. She married Kenneth Webley (Page 15) He was born 15 Dec 1912 to Father: Harold Webley and Mother: Rhoda Trevethrick. Kenneth died: 22 Feb 1997 in Auckland and was cremated at Waitakere Cemetery.Their children:

4 FREDERICH JEHU GODDEN BARNARD was born 11 Dec 1866 in Huish Episcopi, Somerset to parents Jehu Barnard and Harriet nee Godden. Fred was baptised on 8 Jan 1872 (Huish Episcopi baptism register) with sponsors George Tilley, Amelia Tilley and parents John (Jehu) Barnard and Harriet Barnard.He married SARAH ANN (ANNIE) GRINTER born 06 Jan 1864 in Hambridge, Somerset on 31 Jan 1889 in Hambridge, Middlemoor, Somerset. She was the daughter of JOHN GRINTER and SUSAN (Ann) BURN. They travelled to New Zealand before 1894.

Fred was a fellmonger and in 1897, he and wife Alice were living at Alicetown - he held office as secretary of the Forresters of the Court Bloomfield Lodge. He was described as a manufacturer when he died at the early age of 39 years at his residence at Alicetown, Lower Hutt on 31 Aug 1906. His burial took place on 03 Sep 1906 at Taita Old Monumental, Lower Hutt. Annie, now a widow, remained in Alicetown, Hutt until 1929 lived at Donald St; 1931 at 22 Montague St, Lower Hutt and 1938 at 80 Knights Rd, Lower Hutt. She died 23 Aug 1944 aged 82 years and was buried 25 Aug 1944, Taita Old Monumental, Lower Hutt Their Children are:

i. Frederick Jehu Grinter Barnard: b. 31 Aug 1890, Hambridge, Somerset; d. 18 Sep 1981, Masterton In 1914, living at Fitzherbert St, Alicetown; plumber. At the outbreak of WW1 - Category - First Reserves; Last NZ Address - Alicetown, Lower Hutt, Occupation plumber; Recruiting District - Wellington. He took a keen interest in the HUTT VALLEY PIGEON SOCIETY - in 1915 he served on the committee and at the annual meeting it was said that birds owned by members of the club numbered 300 and he enlisted at No. 5 Group Office, Buckle-street - Frederick Barnard (plumber). In 1916, 5th April, he married DORIS MAY HOUCHEN - she was born 25 Aug 1891 at Wellington to George William and Sarah Houchen. Fred worked as a plumber at Lower Hutt, in 1943 was a grocer, but returned to plmbing and lived at Titahi Bay, Petone and in 1975 now retired, Fred and Doris living at 25a Upper Plain Rd, Masterton. Doris passed away 02 Aug 1980 aged 82 years and the following year at 91, Frederick Ernest died on 18 Sep 1981. They are buried at the Archer Street Cemetery, Q E Park, Masterton. Their daughters were named Molly Rose; Dorothy May and Freda Beryl Barnard.

Catherine Bessie Barnard: b. 23 Nov 1894, Petone, Lower Hutt; d. 13 Sep 1981, Eastbourne, Hutt; married journalist DOUGLAS JAMES GUINEY in 1918 at Lower Hutt; He was born Mar 1889 at Christchurch where he was educated at Christs College; d. 28 May 1943, Eastbourne - they are buried Hutt Valley Taitai Old Monumental cemetery, Wellington.

Clifford John (Jonny) Barnard: His birth was registered as Clifford John Barnard; Father BARNARD Fred John ; Occupation Fellmonger ; Mother GRINTER Sarah Ann; born on 30 May 1896 He lost his life WW1 in the Seccond battle of the Somme, France; Grave/Memorial Reference: VI. The funeral service held at Our Chapel, Osborne Place, Lower Hutt on Thursday 17th followed by interment at Taitai Cemetery; He married EDITH EDNA* CUNNINGHAM on 22 Jan 1925, Lower Hutt; She was the daughter of Harry Cunningham and Amelia nee Webb and was born 21 Aug 1903 at Lower Hutt;She died 21 Mar 1980, Lower Hutt. Burial: 25 Mar 1980, Taitai old Monumental, Lower Hutt. Gerald was a grocer living at Lower Hutt with his family and in 1954 they retired to Raumati
